Alwinton [4th February] - The tiny village of Alwinton sits comfortably beneath the rolling foothills of the Cheviots and faces south. It was one of the ‘Ten towns of Coquetdale’ and stands at the junction of two important historic border crossings. Its annual Shepherds’ Show is the last of the season and draws visitors from far and wide. Otherwise, for most of the year the village is a peaceful place and an ideal base for exploring the surrounding hills. As you explore the green hills, high above Northumberland’s longest river, the Coquet, you will never be more than three crow-flown miles from the cosy and welcoming hearth of Alwinton’s petite ‘Rose and Thistle’ public house. The suggested route takes you into the hills beyond the village and returns along Clennell Street. Ed Amis, John Bell, Anne Marie Forster, Karyn Parlett, Dek Parmley & Lisa Philliskirk will, if necessary, be using their private vehicle as Club transport in order to take Tony Austin, Linda Boakes, Kathryn Booth, Michelle Kelly, Josie McGinley, Malcolm McVey, Hedley Oliver, Colin Phillips, Kishor Raichura, Alan Ross, Ken Rowell, Roger Smith, Ian Thomson & Ronald Willinson to Alwinton. If you wish to join them please contact the Secretary. Margaret Andison, Ian Goodman, Natalie Goodman, Ailie Langston & Edward Vose will be meeting up at Alwinton.

Fares = £15. Bookings are valid only if received via answer-phone OR Email. As long as notification of a cancellation is received via answer-phone OR Email by the Secretary by 21:00 on the evening prior to the walk or thereafter no later than 08:00 via 07963064198 on the morning of the walk and it is subsequently possible to fill ALL seats in ALL Club transport the fee will be waived. Whilst the Club greatly appreciate messages being relayed to event co-ordinators via word of mouth on Saturday morning, please note that such messages unfortunately don’t count as official notification of cancellation and you will remain liable for the full £15 fare. Please don't forget that if you insist upon travelling in your own car, you still must MAKE A BOOKING and pay £3 per participant. All participants MUST sign the Attendance Record Sheet on the day. As at least one week’s notice off cancellation of the Transport North East minibus is required without forfeiting the £75 booking fee, a decision has to be made on the Thursday evening as to whether or not the event is financially viable. Therefore in order to make my decision easy, if at all possible please book early for each event.
